Solo advice

Postby DreuxD » Fri May 14, 2010 1:56 am

Hey pickers! I have a show commin up in a few days, and in one of the songs, I'm taking an improvised solo. I'm playing the solo with a capo so that i can play the scales linearly in rolls with open notes. But my question is do you folks have any tips to help my solo improvisation?

Pick on!

ever try pentatonics ? I think a lot of folks use those scales to get a different sound for improvising or solos.

here is where I found scales http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/scale ... scales.htm Penatonics skip two notes of a scale so it gives you a different sound

Tough to give advice if we dont know what level of playin' your at. can you post a vid or clip of what your doin'? That would help in any reply :)
Improv is just that....makin' it up as you go. As long as you know the tune structure...eg: I IV V..or what ever you can always play along simply using variations of scales and modes but true improv comes from knowing where on your instrument the notes are and playing from your heart and feelings :)
